Quartz is a man-made product combining ground natural quartz fragments with resin, polymers and pigments for color.  This process produces a very hard material that is fabricated into slabs.  These slabs can be used for all sorts of applications in the home or for commercial use.

Quartz countertops are often referred to as Engineered Stone Countertops.

Quartz is extremely hard and durable.  It is non-porous, which makes it hypoallergenic and therefore a good choice for kitchens.  Quartz is stain resistant and does not require sealing, ever.  It is easy to maintain and can be cleaned with simple soap and water.

Due to its low maintenance quality, Quartz is a good choice for countertops in a high use bathroom.

Quartz can discolor due to sunlight and it is not heat resistant.  Remember, it has resin (plastic) fillers, which can melt under high heat.  Homeowners should be mindful of hot pots and curling irons.  It is possible to chip Quartz, but fortunately it can be repaired by a professional.

Quartz comes in a wide variety of colors and is consistent in appearance.  It is not necessary to look at several slabs for variations in color or pattern.  What you see on the sample board is what you will get.
