In “Kim’s Pearls”, “The Artful Home”, Kim talks about commissioning a piece of original artwork.  She talks about finding a piece of art that you love, but it turns out that it is not the right size or the colors are just not right.  What do you do?  Commission a piece of art from an artist!

As part of some of our design projects we have done just that.  We have worked with three different artists and we have loved their work and loved working with them.

The first artist is Ann Barbieri.  Kim fell in love with a piece of artwork of Ann’s.  She commissioned Ann to create a special piece to be used as a focal point in Kim’s kitchen renovation.  Ann’s work “has been called exuberant” and her “paintings are informed by a lovely sense of color”.

The second artist is Adam Stewart.  One of our clients was looking for just the right piece to display over her stone fireplace in her family room.  Our client fell in love with a piece by Adam and commissioned him to create a piece that was the right size and complemented the colors in her family room.  Adam’s “artistic creations represent life and nature at their most beautiful moments”.

The third artist is Martha Spak.  Kim was looking for art for a client’s master bedroom.  It was towards the end of the design cycle and Kim was looking for a special piece.  Kim saw Martha’s work at the Washington Design Center and fell in love with it.  Martha was wonderful to work with–incorporating the client’s colors and creating an amazing piece that complemented the design of the room.  Martha is known for her “ethereal painting with soothing tones”.
